ArtCraft Entertainment Announces Massively Expanded Character Customization Options/Overhauled Graphics and Lighting Engine for Crowfall

Races and Classes now part of character creation; new videos detail massive feature upgrade including vastly upgraded graphics

AUSTIN, Texas, May 16, 2017 — Independent game developer ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc., makers of the highly anticipated Crowfall® massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, announced today a major upgrade to the game’s character customization system and an overhaul of the graphics and lighting engine. Crowfall will soon be adding races and classes to the character system, an effort made possible by the company’s continued success at crowdfunding and private funding efforts. In addition the company is upgrading Crowfall’s graphics engine with direct assistance from the Unity Spotlight team.

“When we started this project, we decided to use archetypes instead of allowing players to separately choose a RACE and a CLASS for each character,” said Artcraft CEO and Chief Creative Officer J. Todd Coleman. “This limitation was mostly driven by content cost, and thanks to our fundraising efforts, we can now afford to build the vision we originally wanted. This will give our players an incredible amount of flexibility to create the unique characters that they want to play.”

To help players better understand the changes, ArtCraft today released two new videos: one detailing the roles that RACE And CLASS will have in the game and the other to show off the new upgrades to the game’s graphics and lighting. You can access the videos here: Crowfall: Race & Class videoCrowfall: Graphics Overhaul video

"We have spent the last few months overhauling our lighting system," explained Gordon Walton, president and executive producer at ArtCraft. "And the results speak for themselves. I have no doubt that our current backers, and our future players, will be delighted by this significant leap forward."

Crowfall differs from standard MMOs in that each server represents a single “campaign world" with a unique map, unique rules, and a limited lifespan. A campaign will last only a few months before one guild or alliance conquers the map – at which point the characters collect the spoils of war and move on to the next campaign.

Crowfall is currently in pre-alpha testing and open to early access backers. With 40,000 backers and more than $12 million in total project funding, Crowfall is considered one of the most anticipated MMOs scheduled to launch in 2017.

Crowfall is developed by a team that includes senior members of several groundbreaking MMOs such as Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Shadowbane, Wizard 101 and Star Wars: The Old Republic. Monday, September 4, 2017

The company behind Crowfall forges new avenues of funding for independent game development

AUSTIN, Texas, December 1st, 2016 — Independent game developer ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. announced today they have officially crossed the minimum necessary threshold to ensure the success of their Title III, Regulation CF crowdfunding campaign with Indiegogo.com and Microventures.com newly launched investment portal.

"As an independent game studio, finding new avenues for funding your titles can be both challenging and time consuming,” explained Gordon Walton, president and executive producer at ArtCraft Entertainment. "We are happy to pioneers in video game crowdfunding, following up our massively successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015 with an investment campaign with Indiegogo and MicroVentures.com.”

ArtCraft is the creator of Crowfall, a dynamic Massively Multiplayer Online world where thousands of players take the roles of kings, queens, mercenaries and assassins all vying for control of a virtual throne. Details of ArtCraft’s Title III campaign can be found at: https://equity.indiegogo.com/offerings/artcraft-entertainment/

Described as a “Throne War Simulator”, Crowfall differs from standard MMOs in that each server represents a single “campaign world" with a unique map, unique rules, and a limited lifespan. "Indiegogo could be a game-changer for our industry. Until now, funding sources for games were limited to traditional sources, like video game publishers, VC firms and accredited angels," explained J. Todd Coleman, ArtCraft Entertainment CEO and Chief Creative Officer. "Now, the people who are passion about your vision can invest in your company, which means new opportunities to bring that vision to life.”

The success of this equity title raise will add to ArtCraft’s impressive fundraising history – with more that $10 million raised via crowdfunding, multiple rounds of private financing, and a licensing agreement with Travian Games GmbH to localize and operate the game throughout Europe.

ArtCraft Entertainment and Travian Games announce international distribution agreement for Crowfall

Monday, June 27, 2016

ArtCraft to host 12-hour live stream on twitch.com/Crowfall to announce partnership

AUSTIN, Texas, June 27, 2016 — Independent game developer ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. announced today that they have entered into a formal partnership agreement with Travian Games, GmbH of Munich, Germany to help bring their flagship MMO title, Crowfall, to western Europe, Brazil and MENA.

"We received multiple offers to release Crowfall in Europe, but Travian was simply the best cultural fit. Travian Games has enormous reach, with millions of players world-wide -- but they are still a game developer at heart," explained Gordon Walton, president and executive producer at ArtCraft Entertainment. "This was key, as we don't want a conventional publisher for Crowfall. We want a partner who sees the potential of our game, and won't try to change it into something else."

A new type of massively-multiplayer online experience, Crowfall is a Throne War Simulator, a dynamic virtual world where kings, queens, mercenaries and assassins vie for supremacy using military strength, economic might and political power.

Lars Janssen, CEO of Travian Games, said "I couldn’t be more excited about the partnership with ArtCraft Entertainment and the opportunity for Travian Games to work on Crowfall. The cultural fit between our teams is amazing and I’m looking forward to jointly building a great community around the game."

Crowfall differs from standard MMOs in that each server represents a single “campaign" with a unique map, unique rules, and a limited timeframe. Each campaign lasts only a few months before one guild or alliance conquers the map and wins, and the players move on to the next campaign.

"Travian Games is one of the first, and most successful, pioneers in campaign-based gaming," notes J. Todd Coleman, ArtCraft Entertainment CEO and Chief Creative Officer. "Crowfall is the natural evolution of that idea: A dynamic virtual environment where hundreds of thousands of players can compete for world domination and only one alliance can emerge victorious."

Riding the momentum of a successful Kickstarter campaign in March of 2016, Crowfall has established itself as one of the most successful crowdfunded projects in video game history, raising almost $2.8m in pledges from over 27,000 backers.

To celebrate this announcement, the partners will be hosting a 12-hour livestream from ArtCraft’s office in Austin, Texas. Between the hours of 8am and 8pm central on Monday, June 27th, players can tune in to win prizes, ask questions of the ArtCraft and Travian teams, watch gameplay demonstrations – including a sneak peek of new technology designed to support large-scale player battles, and a significant visual upgrade to the game – and buy pledge packages at significantly discounted prices.

The 12 hour Crowfall livesteam event can be found at https://www.twitch.tv/crowfallgame.

CROWFALL’S SIEGE PERILOUS BRINGS DESTRUCTION AND SIEGE WARFARE

Wednesday, April 13, 2016

ArtCraft Entertainment Introduces Castle Defense and New Playable Archetype as Pre-Alpha Testing Continues

AUSTIN, Texas, April. 13, 2016 — Independent game developer ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. revealed today that external pre-alpha testing has started for the "Castle Siege" system of their flagship title, Crowfall®.

A Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMORPG) that centers on political alliances and feudal conquest, Crowfall has been described as “a throne war simulator.” With heavy focus on player versus player gameplay, opposing sides collide in the unending struggle for glory, wealth and power.

In this latest phase of testing, Pre-Alpha 2.0: Siege Perilous, participants split off as soldiers supporting Chaos or Order, either laying siege to or defending a castle. In addition, the castle destruction system is now online, allowing players to tear down walls and topple towers with real-time server side physics.

Five of Crowfall’s eventual 13 archetypes will be available to players in this round of testing: Champion, Confessor, Knight, Legionnaire and the recently-added Ranger.

"This is an incredibly exciting milestone for us,” said J. Todd Coleman, ArtCraft co-founder and Crowfall’s creative director. “Our previous tests centered on PvP combat, which is obviously critical to our game but not unique to the market. Our physics-based castle siege system marks the point where Crowfall starts to separate from the other games available in the market."

A project jointly supported by crowdfunding and private investors, Crowfall’s 2015 Kickstarter remains among the most successful campaigns in the video game category. Supporters were amazed and delighted when the first phase of external testing began just six short months after the Kickstarter ended. Reception has been highly favorable and the game has been lauded on several “Most Anticipated” lists, including those for IGN.com and MMORPG.com.

ArtCraft Entertainment Begins Next Phase of Crowfall Testing

Thursday, November 19, 2015

More than 4,000 backers to be invited to test MMO combat system

AUSTIN, Texas, November 19, 2015 — Independent game developer ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. today announced the kick-off of the next phase of pre-alpha testing for its flagship MMO, Crowfall. A new type of online experience, Crowfall is described as a Throne War Simulator in which thousands of players vie for glory, wealth and power in a game of feudal empire building and territorial conquest.

“This is a critical phase of development,” explained ArtCraft Co-Founder and Crowfall Executive Producer Gordon Walton. “This round of testing adds core RPG elements like monsters and grouping – as well as a host of performance improvements to make combat more immersive and visceral.”

In addition, this milestone introduces a new hero: the Champion, described by ArtCraft as “a hulking skull-crusher who towers over his opponents and pulverizes everything in his path.” The Champion joins the Knight, the Confessor and the Centaur Legionnaire to become Crowfall’s next playable archetype.

“The core philosophy of our team is to over-deliver. As with our last test, we are unveiling more content and more features than expected, and we are delivering them on the date that was promised,” says ACE Co-Founder and Creative Director J. Todd Coleman.

Riding on the momentum of a successful Kickstarter campaign in March of this year, Crowfall has established itself as one of the most successful crowdfunded projects in video game history. Total project funding (from pledges and investment) currently stands at almost $6 million, and more than 95,000 players have registered at www.crowfall.com for next year’s open beta test.

High-Flying Kickstarter Project Crowfall Opens Game Servers in Europe

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Andreas Weidenhaupt will spearhead European operations for ArtCraft Entertainment

AUSTIN, Texas, September 23, 2015 — Independent game developer ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. today announced plans to provide localized web and game servers in Europe for the pre-alpha testing of the company’s massively multiplayer online (MMO) Throne War Simulator, Crowfall. The first phase will begin this week with the launch of a web site and a game server in Germany which will accommodate players across the EU. Service to other territories with support in seven languages will be added in coming months.

Art Craft Entertainment also announced today the appointment of European game industry executive Andreas Weidenhaupt to the company’s advisory board, which includes Raph Koster and Ed Fries, among other industry luminaries. Weidenhaupt will also serve as the company’s European consultant and will oversee all aspects of ArtCraft’s operations in an effort to provide quality service for European fans.

Weidenhaupt began his career in the games industry when he founded OnlineWelten in 2004. The site grew to become one of the largest entertainment portals in Germany. In 2008, he co-founded Frogster Online Gaming GmbH, shortly thereafter expanding with Frogster America. He then went on to found Infernum Productions AG and its subsidiary, Infernum Studios GmbH, a one-stop shop for game publishing, marketing and operations.

While formulating their overseas strategy, ArtCraft’s founders quickly recognized that Weidenhaupt would be a perfect fit for the team and an integral force in the company’s success in Europe. Co-founder and President Gordon Walton said, "Andreas’ knowledge of the European MMO landscape has already proven to be invaluable in a very short time. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber join our team as a means to demonstrate our commitment to Crowfall in the EU.”

Twice-recognized in Massive Online Gamer magazine’s annual list of the top 20 most influential people in massively multiplayer online games, Weidenhaupt’s wealth of experience made him the obvious choice to drive ArtCraft’s marketing and community strategy for Europe, beginning in his homeland of Germany.

“When I first heard about Crowfall, I knew that I had to be involved,” said Weidenhaupt. “It is a great pleasure and an honor for me to work with the ACE team and to help them bring their first title to the European market. I am absolutely sure that the European gamers will be as enthusiastic as their North American counterparts are about Crowfall.”

Art Craft Entertainment Begins Testing of Crowfall Combat Module, Reveals Hunger Dome Game Mode

Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Highly anticipated Massively Multiplayer Online Game enters combat testing, includes new game mode: The Hunger Dome

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept 2, 2015 — Independent game developer ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. announced that the Pre-Alpha phase of testing for their highly-anticipated MMO, Crowfall. This initial test centers on Player-versus-Player combat, and marks the first time that backers with the Pre-Alpha Kickstarter reward can log in and play. Crowfall is a crowd funded game and to date has raised almost $2.3 million from more than 21,000 backers.

“Today is a huge milestone for Crowfall and ArtCraft.” said Gordon Walton, president and executive producer. “We promised our backers that we would deliver a playable combat prototype by the end of summer, and this morning we officially delivered on that promise.”

Many Pre-Alpha testers have already started, with invitations for almost a thousand more backers expected in the next few weeks. The company made a surprise announcement, revealing that the module also includes a Player-versus-Player game mode known as The Hunger Dome.

“Crowdfunding changes everything,” explains J. Todd Coleman, CEO and creative director. “Our backers are doing us a huge favor by helping us test our game and refine our vision. They are contributing because they are emotionally invested, and we want to recognize and reward that passion by over-delivering.”

In a Hunger Dome match, players are divided into teams and participate in a single-elimination death match session, scavenging for weapons and armor as the map is consumed by “the Hunger” – an enormous, turbulent maelstrom that devours everything it touches.

“The purpose of the Hunger is to force the teams to compete,” explains Coleman. “As the Hunger expands, the play space condenses – forcing them to take refuge in the keep at the center of the map. In the end, only one team is left standing.”

ArtCraft Entertainment’s Crowfall MMO Game Reaches $2 Million in Crowdfunding

Tuesday, June 16, 2015

AUSTIN, Texas, June 16, 2015 — Independent game developer, ArtCraft Entertainment, Inc. today announced that the highly anticipated massively multiplayer online game, Crowfall ™, has amassed more than two million dollars crowdfunding, following on the success of their Kickstarter campaign earlier this year.

Equally impressive, the campaign continues to pull in a record dollars-per-backer amount, amassing this sum from more than 19,000 individuals. The company’s founders, J. Todd Coleman (creative director, Shadowbane, Wizard101, Pirate101) and Gordon Walton (executive producer, Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Wars: The Old Republic) attribute this to Crowfall’s unique vision—a blend between a large-scale feudal strategy game and a traditional MMO.

"We weren’t sure what would happen post-Kickstarter. We knew that we would offer pledge bundles on our website, but would they get any traction?” mused Coleman, who also serves as Crowfall’s creative director. "Obviously we hoped so, since the additional funding will only serve to make the game that much better, but would it grow or flatline? We had no idea what to expect.”

"The answer is: our momentum is growing,” added Executive Producer Gordon Walton. “In terms of overall pledges, total number of backers, and web traffic; every week is bigger than the previous.”

A new type of online experience, Crowfall is a “Massively Multiplayer Online Throne War Simulator.” Players take the role of kings, queens, mercenaries and assassins in a simulation of a feudal world.

Crowfall offers three core areas of conflict: military strength (building castles and conquering territory), political power (forging alliances and attracting a hierarchy of vassals) and economic might (crafting goods and building a merchant empire). Surpassing the $2 million threshold also unlocked the latest in a series of stretch goals: the Shadow, an additional campaign ruleset that offers a new range of guild-focused PvP (Player-versus-Player) mechanics.
