What styles of armor are available in Crowfall?
There are four styles of armor in Crowfall: basic, leather, mail and plate. In ascending order, they provide increasing amounts of protection against incoming damage, with basic providing the least and plate providing the most.
Each style of armor also provides specific statistical benefits:
Leather - A large increase to healing and damage.
Scale - A small increase to healing and damage, and a small increase to maximum health.
Plate - A large increase to maximum health.
Who can wear what type of armor?
Confessor, Ranger, Assassin, Frosweaver, and Duelist will only have access to leather armor by default.
Champion, Cleric, Druid and Myrmidon can wear mail and leather armor.
Knight and Templar have access to plate armor, along with mail and leather.
With the addition of Disciplines, however, any class can wear any type of armor. With the right Disciplines equipped, you can have the plate-wearing Assassin you’ve always dreamed of!
How does the armor reduce damage?
Only the chest piece of the armor has the stats for damage mitigation, so this is the only piece of armor that will affect reductions on damage received. These stats can be augmented via skill training and class buffs.
The helmet, gloves and boots will have their own stats (depending on how they were crafted), and can be mixed and matched between types so you can build the perfect kit for your vessel.
How is mitigation type determined?
Powers will generally do the damage associated with the type of weapon the player has equipped (i.e. all swords do slashing damage). In some cases, a power will do a specific type of damage no matter what weapon is used to deliver it (i.e. the Knight’s Shield Slam power will always deal crushing damage despite the shield not being a weapon).
Based on the type of damage being dealt will determine which stat(s) are checked vs. the player’s combined statistics for that type.
Where do I get armor?
Quality armor, like all equipment, can be crafted by other players. You won’t find legendary loot drops on monsters in Crowfall; instead, you’ll need to use vendors and contact with crafters to buy the armor you need. Basic armor can be crafted by anyone, but the best-quality armor will be crafted by players who have invested time into their skill tree. Check out the Crafting and Economy FAQ for more information.
